MODOT issues safety plea

Though Summer may be winding down, the Missouri Department of Transportation will continue road work throughout the Fall.

MoDOT has issued a safety plea to remind drivers to be careful when driving in work zones. Senior Traffic Study Specialist with MoDOT's Northwest district, Joseph Turner, says careless driving in work zones can be deadly.

"So far this year we've had a 113 work zone crashes that involved 9 people losing their lives in and around work zones on Missouri highways."

MoDOT has launched a Buckle Up, Phone Down initiative to curtail roadway accidents. These are the two most common causes of injuries and fatalities.
